New tuners “The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde,” “Nerds! A Musical Software Satire” and “Soon of a Mornin’ ” have joined the lineup of this fall’s New York Musical Theater Festival.
“Clyde,” based on the real-life bank robbers (not the film), has music by Dana P. Rowe, an Olivier Award nominee for “The Fix” and “The Witches of Eastwick,” with book and lyrics by Michael Aman and Oscar E. Moore.
“Nerds!” is by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner, creators of Off Broadway’s “The Bomb-itty of Errors.” Andy Goldberg directs and Dan Knechtges (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) choreographs.
“Soon,” by Broadway thesp Andrea Frierson-Toney, is about life in post-slavery Alabama.
“Clyde” and “Soon” are world premieres, while “Nerds!” was workshopped last year at New York Stage & Film.
The NYMF previously announced the selection of 18 other tuners, which were selected for fest’s Next Link Project via an application process. These three new tuners were asked to join the fest via a separate invitation process.
Alums of last year’s inaugural NYMF include the currently running Off Broadway productions “Altar Boyz” and “Captain Louie” and the upcoming Off Broadway tuner “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.”
