Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J., will kick off its 2005-06 season with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” Directed by Gabriel Barre, tuner is adapted from the duo’s 1957 made-for musical and will run from Oct. 19-Dec. 4, 2005.
Following the glass slipper tale is the newly adapted Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning play “The Diary of Anne Frank.” Written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Holocaust story has been adapted by Wendy Kesselman, with Carolyn Canter directing.
“Carnival!” rolls into town March 8-April 9. European-set tuner, with music and lyrics by Bob Merrill and book by Michael Stewart, follows a young orphan girl as she becomes entangled with the Grand Imperial Cirque de Paris. Erica Schmidt will direct.
Musical group Groovelily adds a modern twist to Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” running April 19-May 21. A first-time collaboration and co-production between Paper Mill and McCarter Theater, “Dream” will be directed by Tina Landau.
Playhouse caps off the season with “Hello, Dolly!” Tuner, based on Thornton Wilder’s play “The Matchmaker,” with original book by Michael Stewart and music by Jerry Herman, will be directed by Mark S. Hoebee. “Dolly” will play from June 7-July 23.
