Gabriel Byrne headlines the Roundabout’s 2005-06 production of “A Touch of the Poet.” The Eugene O’Neill drama will be directed by Doug Hughes at Studio 54. Previews begin Nov. 11. Opening night is set for Dec. 8.
Byrne plays the role of Cornelius Melody, an Irish immigrant who fancies himself as a distinguished gentleman. The actor’s last appearance on Broadway was in “A Moon for the Misbegotten” in 2000.
“A Touch of the Poet” was first presented on Broadway in 1958.
’12AM’ to tour
Roundabout has announced a national tour for its current production of “Twelve Angry Men.” Helmed by Scott Ellis, the Reginald Rose teleplay-turned-stage drama has become the longest running play at the nonprofit company’s American Airlines Theater. It closes there May 15 after being extended seven times.
The national tour of “12AM,” which includes the Kennedy Center, is set for the 2006-07 season and will be presented in association with Clear Channel Entertainment.
The Roundabout production of the Rose play will also be presented on the West End in 2006-07.
