Alfred Molina will take a walk in Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard.”
The Center Theater Group production will open at the Mark Taper Forum on Feb. 12 and run through March 19. Sean Mathias (“The Elephant Man”) will direct.
Thesp joins previously announced Annette Bening in the play, set in pre-Revolutionary Russia. Molina most recently appeared onscreen as Doc Ock in “Spider-Man 2” and is currently working on Ron Howard’s film adaptation of “The Da Vinci Code.”
He made his Broadway debut in 1998 alongside Alan Alda in the play “Art,” for which he received a Tony nomination. In 2004 he starred in “Fiddler on the Roof,” for which he garnered another nom.
“The Cherry Orchard” is the third production of the Taper’s 2005-06 season, which begins with David Mamet’s “Romance,” running Sept. 29-Nov. 13, and follows with “Lewis and Clark Reach the Euphrates,” Nov. 30-Jan. 22.
