Tyro writer-helmer Nanda Anand will make her feature debut on “Rajapur,” skedded to lense this month in India for Gotham-based production entity Plum Pictures.
Plum’s “Lonesome Jim,” directed by Steve Buscemi, debuted in competish at Sundance this year.
“Rajapur” stars Lynn Collins (“The Merchant of Venice”), Kelli Garner, Justin Theroux, Manoj Bajpai, Celia Weston, Jason Lewis and Frank Langella.
Story follows the adventures of two women discovering a mystical Indian town. A man they meet ends up touching their lives in an unexpected way.
Plum partners Celine Rattray, Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Galt Niederhoffer produce the pic along with Anand and Bergen Swanson.
Anand’s follow-up project will be “Nisha Sharma,” a pic based on a segment aired on “60 Minutes.” Story follows an Indian woman who risks her life by publicly decrying the dowry system and becoming a feminist icon. Plum said that Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai (“Bride and Prejudice”) will topline.
Plum’s credits include upcoming IFC Films project “The Baxter.”
