Sogepaq adds docs to Berlinale sales slate

Docs explore painful episodes in Spanish history

MADRID — In the run-up to the Berlin Film Festival, Sogecable’s distrib house Sogepaq has added two docs to its international sales slate: “Zahira: ‘La que florece’ ” (Zahira: ‘The One Who Blossoms’), from Oscar-nommed helmer Nina Rosenblum, and “Rejas en la memoria” (Bars in the Memory), from vet Spanish documaker Manuel Palacios.

Pickups reflect the centralization of Sogecable content sales under Sogepaq after the closure of Produce Plus, a production and sales op housed at Sogecable premium web Canal Plus Espana.

“Zahira” focuses on the effect of Madrid’s March bombings on Zahira Obaya, 21, who was severely injured in the terrorist attacks. Doc will bow in Spanish theaters and preem on Canal Plus in March.

Using interviews with survivors, news footage and analysis, “Bars” lifts the lid on the concentration camps set up by Spain’s fascist dictator Francisco Franco to house Republican prisoners during and after the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s and ’40s.
