‘Innocence’ helmer wins 2nd Gallic prize

Director won in 1996 for 'La Bouche de Jean-Pierre'

PARIS — Scripter-helmer Lucile Hadzihalilovic won France’s Prix Tres Special for “Innocence,” her offbeat tale of young girls at a boarding school, on Wednesday.

She joins her husband Gaspar Noe in the distinction of being a two-time winner of the prize, which singles out the year’s most unclassifiable film from any country.

Hadzihalilovic won in 1996 for “La Bouche de Jean-Pierre.” Noe won in 1991 for “Carne” and in 1998 for “I Stand Alone.”

Although the prize, in its 21st year, often goes to French films, it has also been won by “The Music of Chance,” “Killing Zoe” and “Happiness” from the U.S.; “Funny Games” and “Dog Days” from Austria; “Meet the Feebles” from New Zealand; and “Songs From the Second Floor” from Sweden.
