John Cohen has been promoted to VP production at 20th Century Fox Animation, it was announced by Chris Meledandri, prexy of the division.
Cohen joined 20th Century Fox Animation in 2000. He most recently was director of development at the unit.
Meledandri called Cohen “an extraordinary executive,” adding, “In addition to (his) overseeing existing projects and bringing in new projects, we are also developing some of John’s original ideas.”
Cohen will be working on the recently announced Fox/Blue Sky project “Horton Hears a Who,” based on the Dr. Seuss book (Daily Variety, March 10) which marks the first Seuss property to be adapted entirely in CGI.
Cohen also is spearheading “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” a pic that has the CGI chipmunks interacting with the live-action real world. Pic is being co-developed by Fox Animation and Fox 2000 Pictures, with scribe Jon Vitti (DreamWorks’ “Dinner for Schmucks”) penning the adaptation.
For Fox, Cohen also is developing a live-action movie with writer Dana Fox based on the Bratz line of dolls.
