‘Yard’ birds lock up laffer script at FX

Sandler's shingle sells comedy skein to cabler

Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Prods. has sold an untitled comedy script, starring Burt Reynolds as a washed-up actor, to cable net FX.

Half-hour, written by “Blue Collar TV” exec producers Fax Bahr and Adam Small, revolves around a former big-time actor, played by Reynolds, whose manager keeps him under the delusion that he’s still on the A list — until he goes bankrupt.

Idea for the skein came up while Sandler and Reynolds were shooting MTV Films’ prison comedy “The Longest Yard.” Pair met with and sold the concept to FX last month.

Sources said execs were won over by the former “Evening Shade” star’s willingness to send up a version of himself.

Bahr, Small and Sandler will exec produce.

For the small screen, Sony Pictures TV/Happy Madison last produced the WB pilot “Dana & Julia,” a modern-day “Laverne & Shirley” starring Chicago-based comics Dana Goodman and Julia Wolov.

Reynolds recently lent his voice to Adult Swim’s stop-motion satire “Robot Chicken,” from creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, and just wrapped production on the Nu Image/Millennium Films political thriller “End Game,” co-starring James Woods, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Angie Harmon. He next stars as Boss Hogg in the feature version of “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

Bahr and Small co-created and exec produced “JKX: The Jamie Kennedy Experiment,” “Gary & Mike” and “Mad TV.” Other credits include feature “Malibu’s Most Wanted” and skein “In Living Color.”
