Billy Crystal and Alan Cumming will be honored by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation at the 16th annual GLAAD Media Awards March 28 in New York City.
Crystal will receive the Excellence in Media Award. Nod is presented to individuals in entertainment and media industries who through their work increase the visibility and understanding of the gay community.
Cumming will receive the Vito Russo Award, presented to an openly lesbian, gay or bisexual member of the entertainment or media community for contributions toward eliminating homophobia.
This ceremony will be the first of three held this year. The second will be April 30 in Los Angeles, followed by a June 11 ceremony in San Francisco. GLAAD is expected to raise more than $3 million from the three.
This year is the first in which the GLAAD Media Awards will be televised. Ceremony is scheduled to air on MTVN’s Logo network later this summer as a part of a weeklong programming event dedicated to GLAAD Media Awards from the past 15 years.
