NEW YORK — Susan Sarandon and Ralph Fiennes are in final negotiations to star in Bob Balaban’s “Doris and Bernard” from Gotham’s Trigger Street Independent and U.K.-based Little Bird Prods.
Indie pic tells the story of tobacco billionairness Doris Duke and her butler.
Script was penned by Hugh Costello, with lensing set to begin in New York in October.
It will focus on the latter part of Duke’s life and her relationship with her gay Irish butler, Bernard Lafferty, to whom she left her entire fortune.
Trigger Street’s Adam and Mark Kassen, Little Bird co-chair Jonathan Cavendish and Balaban are producing.
Balaban and Little Bird developed the project around Sarandon and brought it to Trigger Indie.
Trigger, a unit of Trigger Prods., was formed last year by Kevin Spacey, producer Dana Brunetti and the Kassen writer-helmer duo.
Cinetic Media founding partner Micah Green will handle sales in the U.S.
