TF1 Intl. has added to its slate Thai martial arts title “Tom-Yum-Goong” by the helmer of box office hit “Ong Bak,” and TFM will distribute in France.
Pic, in post production, reteams director Prachya Pinkaew with “Ong Bak” star Tony Jaa. Movie martial arts expert Panna Rittikrai is also involved in the new film, which will bow in Asian territories in August.
“Tom-Yum-Goong,” budgeted at e8 million-10 million, tells the story of Kam, a village boy who must take on a gang of thieves to get back stolen elephants that are destined for the king of Thailand.
The deal was negotiated through sales agent Golden Network Asia for major Thai Production Studio, Sahamongkol film Intl.
Discovered by Luc Besson’s Europacorp, “Ong Bak” went on to be an international box office success.
