The “Hustle & Flow” team of writer-director Craig Brewer and producers Stephanie Allain and John Singleton are ready for an encore.
Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci are negotiating to star in “Black Snake Moan,” a gritty drama Brewer will direct in Memphis in September. Paramount Classics, which will release the Sundance hit “Hustle & Flow,” will distribute. Brewer will also produce.
While a handful of studios had the opportunity to land “Hustle & Flow” before its appearance at Sundance, the pic became the object of a bidding war that Paramount ultimately won.
In “Black Snake Moan,” Jackson would play Lazarus Woods, a God-fearing ex-blues musician who is a father figure to a sex-addicted woman played by Ricci. Justin Timberlake is being courted to play Ricci’s b.f.
Jackson, who recently wrapped New Line pic “The Man” and the Joe Roth-directed Revolution drama “Freedomland,” would shoot the film right after he completes work on the New Line drama “Pacific Air.”
Ricci last starred in the Wes Craven-directed “Cursed.”
