Spanish producer Iker Monfort has teamed with one of Spain’s hottest local helmers, Vicente Penarrocha, to produce romantic actioner “Arritmia.”
“Arritmia” narrates a love story between a prisoner who escapes from Guantanamo jailhouse and feels a passionate attraction to a Cuban girl.
Monfort’s label Monfort Producciones is framing the $6.4 million pic as a Spanish-U.K. co-production. Spanish partners are Jose Herrero and Suki Films.
Eight-week shoot begins in September, rolling in Havana and Spain. An international cast will be announced shortly.
Monfort Prods. has a majority stake in Juan Solanas’ Un Certain Regard player “Northeast,” a drama about a woman (played by Carole Bouquet) who travels to northern Argentina to adopt a child (see review page 16).
San Sebastian-born producer Monfort founded Monfort Prods. last summer after working as head of international at Francisco Ramos’s Alquimia Cinema.
