‘Sophie’ will open AFI Fest section

EFP reception will honor Euro producers, directors

Germany’s official Oscar submission, “Sophie Scholl — The Final Days” will open the Made in Germany section of the AFI Fest on Nov. 4.

European Film Promotion’s “New Faces in European Cinema” will also be honored at this year’s film festival.

Paul Strnad, Czech producer of “Wrong Side Up;” Markus Selin, Finnish producer of “Addiction;” Christian Alvart, German helmer of “Antibodies;” Ari Alexander Magnusson, Icelandic helmer of “Screaming Masterpiece;” Gijs Van De Westelaken, Dutch producer of “06/05 The Sixth of May;” Josef Fares, Swedish scribe and helmer of “Zozo;” Ruxandra Zenide, Swiss helmer of “Ryna” and Richard Bracewell, British helmer of “The Gigolos” will be officially introduced and honored at an EFP reception Nov. 5.

“Almost Heaven,” “Antibodies,” “Summer in Berlin,” “The Wedding Party” and the documentary “Horst Buchholz … My Papa” round out the Made in Germany lineup.

All pics will screen twice during AFI which runs Nov. 3-13.
