“Darwin’s Nightmare” won the Sterling Award for feature documentary Monday at the 2005 SilverDocs festival.
Hubert Sauper-helmed pic, which examines the effects of globalization on a Tanzania fishing community, had already picked up fest awards in Vienna, Copenhagen and Paris. It also won the docu prize at the 2004 European Film Awards.
The Silver Springs, Md.-based festival, presented by the American Film Institute and the Discovery Channel, presented its short-film kudos to “Positively Naked,” directed by Arlene Donnelly Nelson and David Nelson.
Psychedelic rock doc “You’re Gonna Miss Me,” from Keven McAlester, took the Dr. Martens award for music documentary.
The audience split its feature award between two pics, Marshall Curry’s “Street Fight” and Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s “Boys of Baraka.” It handed its short award to “God Sleeps in Rwanda,” from Kimberlee Acquaro and Stacy Sherman.
Third annual SilverDocs ran June 14-19.
