HOLLYWOOD — The Santa Barbara Film Festival is offering up more than new films at this year’s event. Six panels, attracting some of the biggest names in the biz, will take place during the 10-day fest.
“Movers & Shakers,” at the Lobero Theater on Jan. 29, will be moderated by Daily Variety deputy editor Elizabeth Guider. Panelists include producers Stuart Benjamin, Lee Daniels, Richard Gladstein, Graham King, Michael London, Michael Nozik and John Walker.
Screenwriters will gather for “It Starts With the Script” later that day at the Lobero Theater. Moderator is AMPAS prexy Frank Pierson; participants include Zach Braff, Brad Bird, Bill Condon, Julie Delpy, Paul Haggis, Charlie Kaufman, John Logan, Jose Rivera and Jim Taylor.
Discussions on women in Hollywood will be moderated by Daily Variety‘s Madelyn Hammond during “Creative Forces: Women in the Biz.” Hammond will be joined by panelists Colleen Atwood, costume designer; Karen Baldwin, producer; Virginia Katz, film editor; and “Sideways” thesp Virginia Madsen. Panel will take place at Victoria Hall on Jan. 30.

Peter Guber, co-host of “Sunday Morning Shootout,” will moderate “Directors on Directing” on Feb. 5. Directors scheduled to participate include Alejandro Amenebar, Kevin Bacon, Terry George, Nicole Kassell, Walter Salles and Joel Schumacher.
The importance of music in film will be discussed during “Scoring the Film.” Composers John Debney, Michael Giacchino, Jan Kaczmarek, Rolfe Kent, Mark Mothersbaugh and Aaron Zigman will join moderator Jim Svejda of KUSC Radio.
Final panel will be “The Future of Nature Filmmaking: Classic or New Wave.” Moderated by Mike deGruy at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, panelists include Thom Beers, Howard Hall, Michelle Hall, Michael Hanrahan and Bruce Reitherman.
Fest runs Jan. 28-Feb. 6.
