Company picks up int'l rights to black comedy

LONDON — Renaissance Films has picked up international rights to Marcos Siega’s Sundance entry “Pretty Persuasion,” starring Evan Rachel Wood, Ron Livingston and James Woods.

The movie is a black comedy about celeb-obsessed teen culture set in a tony Beverly Hills high school. Roadside Attractions/Goldwyn took North American rights at Sundance, where it screened in dramatic competition.

Renaissance will screen “Pretty Persuasion” at Berlin’s European Film Market later this month.

Meanwhile, Renaissance has lined up distribution deals in several territories to “Shooting Dogs,” a true-life drama about the Rwandan genocide, directed by Michael Caton-Jones.

Pic, in post, has been acquired by Haut et Court in France, Lauren Film in Spain, A-Film/Cinelibre in Benelux, Frenetic in Switzerland, Gussi in Mexico, Odeon in Greece and Phars in the Middle East.
