New Line hops onto ‘Journey’

'Winn-Dixie' write gets 'Miraculous' deal

New Line has picked up rights to Kate DiCamillo’s unpublished children’s book “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” for a bigscreen adaptation.

Pic will be produced by David Blackman and Wendy Finerman of Wendy Finerman Prods. The duo brought the project to New Line.

Merideth Finn and Mark Kaufman are set to oversee “Tulane” for the studio.

Skedded for publication in 2006 through Candlewick Press, “Tulane” follows an arrogant toy china rabbit that must head off on a series of adventures in order to learn to love.

DiCamillo’s previous works include “Because of Winn-Dixie” and “Tale of Despereaux.”

“The Triplets of Belleville” helmer Sylvain Chomet is attached to direct DiCamillo’s “Despereaux” at Universal.
