SYDNEY — Film producer Trish Lake has been elected prexy of the Screen Producers Association of Australia.
Effective September, she will replace Stephen F. Smith, managing director of Frameworks post-production house, who is stepping down after three years.
Lake, a former newsie who cut her teeth at the Australian Broadcasting Corp., produced the comedy “Gettin’ Square,” and has two movies in development.
While SPAA prexys have previously been based in Melbourne or Sydney, Lake will remain in Brisbane, where her Freshwater Pictures banner is headquartered.
Smith will deliver the President’s Address at the SPAA Conference on Queensland’s Gold Coast Aug. 8-16.
“I endeavored to go to government with doable policies rather than constant requests for funding,” said Smith, under whose stewardship SPAA developed the 10BB tax investment incentive, delivered to the government earlier this year.
