Fiennes feeling ‘Disgrace’-ful

South African pic to start shooting later this year

JOHANNESBURG — Ralph Fiennes will play the lead role in the adaptation of South African author J.M. Coetzee’s Booker Prize-winning novel “Disgrace,” to be shot in South Africa later this year.

Fiennes’ London rep, David Higham Associates, confirmed the deal to South Africa’s Sunday Times.

Fiennes will play a divorced Cape Town professor who, after having an affair with a student, moves to the Eastern Cape, only to become entangled in a disturbing web of post-apartheid politics.

Australians Steve Jacobs and Anna-Maria Monticelli, who teamed up on 2001’s “La Spagnola,” will direct.

Monticelli said the rest of the cast had not been finalized. The filmmakers will visit Cape Town shortly to discuss the project with South African production companies.
