Director sings ‘Lyrics’ for Fiesta

Alexander to helm urban love story

Lexi Alexander will direct “Life ‘n’ Lyrics,” the debut project from Esther Douglas and Fiona Neilson’s recently formed shingle Fiesta Prods.

Pic, which will star Ashley Walters (“Bullet Boy”), will begin shooting in June.

“Life ‘n’ Lyrics,” described as “8 Mile” meets “Romeo and Juliet,” is a love story set against the backdrop of London’s urban music scene. Pic follows South London DJ Danny and his crew as they battle onstage against their North London rivals. Danny unwittingly falls for a singer from the rival crew, but soon realizes the danger of their taboo relationship.

Pic was written by Ken Williams and was developed with the U.K. Film Council and the European Union’s Media program.

Alexander secured an Oscar nomination for short “Johnny Flynton” and helmed the upcoming “Hooligans,” starring Elijah Wood, Charlie Hunnam and Claire Forlani. Latter pic won numerous awards at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival.

Walters is filming Jim Sheridan’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’ ” in Toronto and New York.

Douglas and Neilson formed Fiesta in early 2004. Previously, the pair ran development for directors Mike Newell at 50 Cannon Entertainment and Michael Winterbottom at Revolution Films, respectively.

Fiesta has several projects in development.
