MADRID — Spanish distribution and sales company Sogepaq notched up major territory deals at Cannes on its latest third-party pickup, “20 Centimeters,” a transvestite comedy-cum-musical from Ramon Salazar.
Salazar’s debut, “Stones,” screened in competition at Berlin in 1999.
Lady Film has taken all rights to Italy and We and Co. has taken France, while Paradiso has licensed Benelux, Castello Lopes Portugal and Provision the former Yugoslavia.
Philadelphia-based TLA Releasing announced late last month that it had taken North American rights to “20 Centimeters.”
“20 Centimeters” turns on Marieta (Monica Cervera of “Ferpect Crime”), a narcoleptic transvestite who yearns to become a transsexual.
Marieta dreams she’s the star of flouncy song-and-dance numbers.
The film is produced by Alligator Producciones; Estudios Picasso, which is the production arm of broadcaster Telecinco; Jet Films; and France’s Divine Prods.
Pic world preemed in competition at the Malaga Spanish Film Festival in April.
