Corp. pacts to sell intern'l library

TORONTO — CanWest Global Communications Corp. has inked a deal to sell its Fireworks international library to London-based ContentFilm Intl., a division of ContentFilm, for C$35 million ($29 million).

The deal is subject to the approval of ContentFilm’s shareholders, and is skedded to close in mid-June.

The library of Fireworks, CanWest’s now-defunct production division, includes 280 film and TV programs such as “Zoe Busiek: Wildcard,” “Andromeda,” and “Mutant X,” as well as features “Rat Race,” “Hard Ball” and “Rules of Engagement.”

CanWest Global Communications retains Canadian distribution rights to the majority of films and programs.

The sale winds down that division, now called CanWest Entertainment Intl. Distribution. Its 12 London-, L.A.- and Dublin-based employees “will be offered employment by the purchaser,” according to CanWest.
