NEW YORK — Jon Amiel is set to direct darkly funny WWI feature “Angel Makers” for London-based the Producers, working closely with writer Paul Billing on the script.
“Angel,” based on a true story of intrigue and sexual liberation, concerns a group of women in a Yorkshire farming community who become murderous when their husbands return from the trenches of battle and threaten the affairs they’re carrying on with German POWs.
Jeanna Polley will produce.
Polley and Jenny Edwards, her partner at the Producers, received a British Academy of Film & Television Arts award for TV drama series “The Politician’s Wife” and produced “Seeing Red” for Granada Films. Duo also co-produced “Laws of Attraction.”
Amiel’s directing credits include “Entrapment,” “Copy Cat” and period film “Sommersby.”
