NEW YORK — Luke Wilson has joined the cast of Walden Media and New Line Cinema’s family pic “Hoot.”
Wilson will play a bumbling cop stymied by middle schoolers, played by Logan Lerman and Brie Larson, on a crusade to save an owl habitat.
Pic is based on Carl Hiaasen’s bestseller and revolves around a Montana boy who moves to Florida and unearths a threat to the local population of endangered owls.
Pic is helmed by funnyman Wil Shriner and produced by Frank Marshall and Jimmy Buffett.
Buffett also is contributing original music.
“When I first read ‘Hoot’ and started writing the screenplay, Luke fit the character so well in my mind,” Shriner said.
Alex Schwartz, Doug Jones and Evan Turner are overseeing the project for Walden. New Line’s Mark Kaufman and Michael Disco are overseeing for the studio.
Wilson’s upcoming credits include two 20th Century Fox pics, “The Family Stone” with Diane Keaton and the Mike Judge comedy “Idiocracy.”
Walden’s slate includes a live-action adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”
