U exec climbs to VP post

Kirsch is upped to veep at Universal

Universal Pictures has upped Jeff Kirschenbaum to VP of production after serving for three years as a creative executive. Promotion will expand the number of films he oversees for the studio.

At U, Kirschenbaum has worked on pics including “The Bourne Supremacy,” “In Good Company” and “2 Fast 2 Furious.”

Most recently, Kirschenbaum played a central role in the deal to option the book series “Magic Kingdom” by Terry Brooks. Stephen Sommers will direct, with Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel adapting the first book in the series.

Other films he’s shepherding include the vidgame adaptation “Doom,” starring Karl Urban and set for release in August. He’s also involved in the vidgame title “Spyhunter,” with John Woo to helm and Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson to star, and Michael Mann’s bigscreen update of “Miami Vice” with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell to star.

Before joining U in 2001, Kirschenbaum was a creative exec at Mace Neufeld Prods.
