New Line is looking to make a 21st century “Mr. Mom.”
Studio has acquired spec “Stay at Home Tom” from scribe Adam Gibgot for six figures, with Chris Bender and JC Spink set to produce via their New Line-based BenderSpink shingle.
Script concerns a father who has to learn to take care of his two young children when his wife goes back to work.
Scribe wrote it as a modern take on 1983’s “Mr. Mom” based on his own experience staying at home with his two kids.
Pic is the first comedy for Gibgot, who’s also exec producing. He recently signed a blind deal to write two dramas for Sony Pictures Television and has sold several unproduced features, including “Untraceable” to Castle Rock in 2001.
BenderSpink is readying “Red Eye” for DreamWorks and “A History of Violence” for New Line.
Cale Boyter and Richard Brenner are overseeing for the mini-major.
