‘Listener’ has IFC’s ear

Distrib found for 'Night' pic

NEW YORK — IFC Films has come aboard as a co-financier and distributor on helmer Patrick Stettner’s “The Night Listener,” starring Robin Williams and Toni Collette.

Pic is being produced under the Hart Sharp Entertainment banner.

As part of the pact, IFC Films will distribute the film domestically, but could conceivably partner with another distrib on the rollout. Banner has partnered on releases with Focus (“Brothers”) and Lions Gate (“Fahrenheit 9/11”).

Based on Armistead Maupin’s bestseller, “Listener” follows the life of popular radio host (Williams) and the unexpected events that follow when he strikes up a telephone relationship with his biggest fan, a troubled boy.

Bobby Cannavale, Sandra Oh, Joe Morton and Rory Culkin co-star. Terry Anderson and Stettner penned the screen adaptation.

IFC and Hart Sharp’s True Film Fund II are financing the pic. Producers include John Hart, Jeffrey Sharp, Robert Kessel and Jill Footlick. Exec producers are Maupin, Anderson, Hart Sharp’s Michael Hogan and IFC’s Jonathan Sehring and Caroline Kaplan.

IFC previously acquired Stettner’s debut, “The Business of Strangers.”

Pact was brokered by UTA, Hogan, Sehring and IFC acquisitions exec Sarah Lash.
