IFC Films has selected its own pic “Me and You and Everyone We Know,” by Miranda July, to open the IFC Center on June 17.
State-of-the-art cinema and industry facility was built on the site of the Waverly Theater in Greenwich Village.
Pic just picked up a spate of awards in Cannes, including the Critics Week Grand Prize and Camera d’Or.
Earlier this year, former Cowboy Pictures head John Vanco was tapped veep-general manager of the center, overseeing day-to-day operations, including firstrun exhibition, special cinema programs and management of the facility’s film editing suites.
Center was hatched by IFC Entertainment prexy Jonathan Sehring as a mixed-use facility that would extend IFC’s brand in Gotham.
IFC also recently settled on an advisory board for the facility, including helmers Alfonso Cuaron, Richard Linklater, Rebecca Miller, Errol Morris, John Sayles, Kevin Smith and Steven Soderbergh.
“Me and You” follows the tale of a newly single shoe salesman and father of two boys (John Hawkes) whose life changes when he meets an artist and “Eldercab” driver (July).
Pic bows exclusively at the IFC Center before its Los Angeles opening June 24.
