HOLLYWOOD — The British Academy of Film & Television Arts/Los Angeles will honor Mike Newell with the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for artistic excellence at the Britannia Awards, to be presented Nov. 10 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Newell began his career in television, directing more than 40 made-fors and 11 series as well as docs and specials.

He received worldwide recognition in 1994 with romantic comedy “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” His next pic is “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” due out in November.

As previously announced, Tom Cruise will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for excellence in film.
