SINGAPORE — More than a year since its formation was announced, Lucasfilm Animation Co. Singapore will open Oct. 27.
U.S.-based veep and general manager of Lucasfilm Animation Gail Currey will be in town for the opening ceremony at the facility in Changi Business Park.
Heading up the 50-strong operation is G.M. Chris Kubsch, who reports directly to Currey.
German native Kubsch was previously a production exec at DreamWorks Animation, having produced major animated features as well as visual effects and character animation for many live-action pictures.
He’s lived in Europe and Asia and has produced and exec produced large-format films for world expos and special venue attractions.
Lucasfilm has joined with a consortium of investors in Singapore, including EDB Investments and Creative Technology.
Singapore studio is expected to handle much of the animation and special effects for the upcoming “Star Wars” toons and live-action TV skeins announced by George Lucas earlier this year.
