U.K.-based Video Island, the biggest online DVD rental business in Europe, has bought Brafilm, the largest player in Scandinavia.

It is Video Island’s first move outside the U.K. and follows on its acquisitions of DVDs365 in June and ScreenSelect.co.uk in August 2004.

With a base of more than 150,000 members, Video Island is handling almost 2 million DVD shipments per month through its subscription service, offering Europe’s largest DVD selection, more than 36,000 titles.

Video Island has raised $27 million in venture capital and is backed by global venture capital firms Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures, Cazenove Private Equity and EVP.
