‘Tarzan II’ leaps to DVD June 14

DisneyToon-produced pic will feature new Collins tunes

HOLLYWOOD — Hoping to capture the $165 million DVD bonanza of “The Lion King 1½” and to start beating the drums for a stage musical version of “Tarzan,” Disney will release original straight-to-DVD pic “Tarzan II” on June 14.

Produced by DisneyToon Studios, the unit that created theatrical release “Pooh’s Heffalump Movie,” “Tarzan II” features two original songs by Phil Collins, who won an Oscar for one of his songs in the original, “You’ll Be in My Heart.”

The coming-of-ape story follows the young Tarzan as he learns the ways of the jungle.

Reprising their roles from the original voice cast are Glenn Close and Lance Henricksen, with George Carlin, Brad Garrett, Ron Perlman and Estelle Harris giving voice to new characters.

Bonus features on the DVD priced at $29.99 will include a musicvideo by Tiffany Evans and several interactivities.
