Eric Maehara has been promoted to veepee of communications for Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
With the promotion, Maehara will add trade marketing, acquisitions and consultation for product publicity to his existing responsibilities. Those duties include oversight of communications for BVHE and multiple award campaigns at Walt Disney Studios, including those for homevideo and theatrical.
Maehara reports to BVHE president Robert Chapek and will continue to work closely with Walt Disney Studios senior VP of communications Heidi Trotta.
“Eric has played a major role in the success of building BVHE’s public image within the industry and the Walt Disney Co.,” Chapek said. “His talents have proven invaluable due to his incredible strategic ability and keen understanding of the needs and goals of our division.”

During his tenure, Maehara has overseen successful DVD/video campaigns for “Toy Story,” “Toy Story 2,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Scream” and “Scream 2.” Maehara also has worked on numerous film campaigns, including those for “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin.”
He began his career in the mailroom in 1991 and later that year joined the Buena Vista Pictures Marketing publicity team. In 1997, he moved to the Buena Vista Home Entertainment division as a publicity manager and was most recently director of corporate communications and publicity.
