Anthology scares up more names

Cohen, Argento added to Anchor Bay DVD project

Several more helmers — including Roger Corman, George Romero and Tobe Hooper — have signed on direct segments of the upcoming “Masters of Horror” film anthology.

IDT Entertainment’s New Arc division and Industry Entertainment are producing “Masters,” a series of 13 hourlong films to be helmed and/or written by some of the genre’s top names. In addition to Corman, Romero and Hooper, new helmers added include Larry Cohen and Dario Argento.

While a DVD deal is already in place via IDT’s Anchor Bay, producers have also decided to shop for a pay-cable window. Meetings with HBO and Showtime are expected to take place in the coming weeks.

IDT Entertainment Sales is also working on worldwide distribution of the project, which sprang from a bimonthly dinner attended by several of the helmers.

Joe Dante, John Landis and Mick Garris, among others, have been with the project since it was first announced at AFM (Daily Variety, Nov. 4). Scribes contributing to the series include Richard C. Matheson (“What Dreams May Come”) and Lawrence D. Cohen (“It”).

Garris, Andrew Deane and Industry’s Keith Addis will exec produce the “Masters” series. Lensing is skedded to begin in April in Vancouver.
