Mouse opens Philippine Playhouse

Accion to distrib Playhouse for preschoolers

Walt Disney Television Intl. has secured feevee distribution for Playhouse Disney Channel in the Philippines.

The 24-hour channel aimed at preschoolers will be distributed by Asian Cable Communications (Accion), which has distributed the Disney Channel in the Philippines since April 2004.

“There is an estimated 7.9 million children 5 years old and younger in the Philippines,” said Raymund Miranda, managing director of WDTVI (Southeast Asia/Korea). “This is a huge audience who can benefit from the fun learning provided by Playhouse Disney Channel.”

Senior veep-managing director of WDTVI (Asia Pacific) Nicky Parkinson said this launch “completes the evolution of the brand from a block on Disney Channel to a standalone channel.”

Playhouse Disney Channel is a commercial-free service featuring preschool programs including “The Book of Pooh,” “Bear in the Big Blue House,” “JoJo’s Circus” and “Higglytown Heroes.”

The Philippines is the 11th Asia-Pacific market to launch Playhouse Disney Channel; next up is New Zealand on Dec. 24.
