PARIS — French private web M6 saw its revenues rise a slight 1.8% to 643.6 million euros ($776.9 million) in the first half of 2005, as the web managed to hold onto its significant share of the advertising market.
Advertising sales, which also came in 1.8% higher compared with the year prior, accounted for the lion’s share of the group’s rev rise. Ad sales rang in at $401 million compared with $395.2 million at the half year in 2004.
“In the context of a difficult advertising market, marked by a drop in household consumption, this rise was achieved despite an unfavorable comparison with last year’s revenue rise of 8.8%,” M6 said. The private web also congratulated itself for a rise in its ad market share to 23.6% from 23% compared with the same period last year.
While the group’s rise is seen among industry watchers as above-average given the ongoing softness of the European ad market, it is still below the 4.2% rise in overall revs M6 saw in the first quarter of 2005.
Outside of its revs for its flagship web M6, the group also underlined a 1.7% overall rise in sales for its other activities including its thematic webs, satcaster TPS, and audiovisual rights.
