To the editor:

Regarding “Exhibs dig ‘Deep’ ” (Daily Variety, Feb. 8): What happened to common decency? I’m a 40-year-old Kim Basinger-type, a native Californian, who’s quite “hip,” but I don’t feel comfortable with the idea that “Deep Throat” will play alongside its documentary.

Laemmle’s position on this issue astounds me. We’re talking hardcore porn here. It’s one thing to show the porn film in an XXX-rated Holly-wood theater but quite another to show it in an average moviegoer’s theater. I saw my first and last XXX-rated film when I was 17.

It was beyond crude — and this film is supposed to be the crudest of the crude. I guess my “red” values are showing. Let’s hope Michael Moore doesn’t extend another offer to help the underaged sneak into a film they shouldn’t be watching.
