TOKYO — Warner Bros. Intl. Television Distribution has signed a multiyear, nonexclusive license agreement with BB Cable Corp., Japan’s leading provider of video-on-demand via broadband Internet.
This deal is BB Cable’s fifth with a major studio: It previously pacted with NBC Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, MGM and DreamWorks.
BB Cable will add major pictures including “The Matrix Revolutions” and “The Last Samurai” to its catalog of 2,800 titles. The new titles will be available to BB Cable’s 4,000-plus subscribers this month.
BB Cable Corp. belongs to the Softbank Group of companies and is a pioneer in the VOD service via its broadband service Yahoo! BB in Japan, a joint venture with Yahoo! Japan Corp. There were 4.2 million Yahoo! BB asymmetric digital subscriber line broadband subs at the end of June.
