UTV unveils Hindi kidvid channel

Just weeks after Turner Intl. India launched its Pogo channel comes a Hindi equivalent aimed at the 47 million children in India’s 40 million cable homes.

Mumbai-based UTV plans to offer dramas, comedies, movies, animation and docs to the kids 4-19 demo.

“This is the first local channel by an Indian company in Hindi for children,” UTV chief exec Ronnie Screwvala said.

Aside from Pogo, the only other children’s channel is Turner’s Cartoon Network, which has aired in India since 1995.
