‘Today II’ ratings rally

Ayemcast averaged 5.52 mil viewers

The holiday weeks were kind to NBC morning show “Today,” whose third hour achieved some ratings records amid the eggnog and confetti.

According to Nielsen, “Today II” — the 9-10 o’clock portion of the morning news show — delivered its largest weekly aud since it bowed in October 2000, averaging 5.52 million viewers.

For both New Year’s week and Christmas week, “Today II” accomplished another ratings first: topping the averages of ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “The View” and CBS’ “The Early Show” in all key ratings categories.

Compared to the parallel week of a year ago, “Today II” was up 14% in adults 18-49, 24% in adults 25-54 and 18% in total viewers.

Although both “GMA” and “Early Show” have made ratings strides the last couple of seasons, the flagship edition of “Today” remains the dominant ayem news program.

Through 15 weeks this season, it leads second-place “GMA” by 36% in adults 25-54 (2.6/18 vs. 1.9/13) and by 24% in overall viewership (6.2 million vs. 5.0 million).
