Telemundo heading to school

B'caster forms alliance with Miami Dade College

Telemundo will launch next year a “Taller Telemundo: Escritores,” (Workshop Telemundo: Writers), an educational program designed to recruit and train the next generation of telenovela writers specifically geared toward the U.S. Hispanic marketplace.

The Miami-based Spanish-lingo brodcaster has formed a strategic alliance with Miami Dade College’s North Campus, School of Entertainment and Design Technology, to create curriculum that specifically prepares Hispanic writers in the telenovela genre, the staple of Spanish-language prime-time programming.

The program will select up to 30 prospective students from qualified applicants for a 10-month instructional program in Miami next year. Students will receive broad-based instruction on the structure of telenovela writing, with a view toward targeting the U.S. Hispanic television audience — and representing the next generation of novela writers for Telemundo.
