‘SVU,’ ‘Race’ set Tuesday pace

Another strong outing by “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” powered NBC to victory in key demos Tuesday, while CBS reality series “The Amazing Race” again performed well, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

“Law & Order: SVU” (6/16 in adults 18-49, 15.2 million viewers overall) easily won the 10 o’clock hour, and was up about 20% vs. the same night a year ago. NBC also did well with a 90-minute “The Biggest Loser” (4.2/11 in adults 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) and was OK at 9:30 with “Scrubs” (3.6/9 in adults 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall).

At CBS, “Amazing Race 6” (4.6/12 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) won the 9 o’clock hour, building upon its solid lead-in from “NCIS” (3.4/9 in adults 18-49, 15 million viewers overall). At 10, “Judging Amy” averaged a 2.8/7 in adults 18-49 and 10.3 million viewers overall).

ABC was steady from start to finish, led by “According to Jim” (4.2/11 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) and lead-out “Rodney” (3.9/10 in adults 18-49, 10.6 million viewers overall), which has emerged as one of the season’s strongest first-year laffers. Also, “NYPD Blue” (3.8/10 in adults 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall) has its strongest 18-49 score of the season.

Fox again struck out at 8 with “Rebel Billionaire” (1.9/5 in adults 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall), but picked it up some at 9 with week two of drama “House” (2.6/7 in adults 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall).

The WB did well with its first telepic, “Samantha: An American Girl Holiday” (1.7/4 in adults 18-49, 6 million viewers overall).

Prelim 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 4.7/12; ABC, 3.6/10; CBS, 3.6/9; Fox, 2.3/6; WB, 1.7/4; UPN, 1.2/3.

In total viewers: CBS, 12.3 million; NBC, 11.2 million; ABC, 9.8 million; WB, 6.0 million; Fox, 5.1 million; UPN, 2.9 million.
