Soviet spies need not apply for Magyar tv job

BUDAPEST The board of Hungary’s state television network Magyar Televizio is hunting for a new prexy after Imre Ragats was ousted for taking kickbacks from commercial advertisers.

Members are very specific about the kind of candidate they don’t want to apply for the post — former communist spies. Prospective appointees must sign an affidavit that he or she did not collaborate with the country’s Soviet-era spy agency known as Section III. The precaution reflects the cloud of reactionary politics engulfing the network.

Other job requirements include fluency in either English or German, Hungarian citizenship and at least five years experience as a television executive. The deadline for applying is Feb. 10.
