RTBF lineup defended

World Brief

Belgian French-language pubcaster RTBF has defended itself against accusations that its revamped program lineup is a disaster.

A leaked internal memo said many of the pubcaster’s new programs were failing to meet their targets.

The author of the memo, research director Emmanuel Tourpe, now says the changes are part of a marathon, not a sprint. “Nothing can be achieved without patience, especially when it comes to quality programming,” he said.

The memo compares the performance of programs on flagship channel La Une against a list of ratings targets the pubcaster has set itself. Only well-established faves such as “The Young and the Restless,” “Rick Hunter” and the Saturday night movie are reaching targets.
