‘Lost’ finds bigger aud

Another big showing by first-year drama “Lost” and solid scores for “Wife Swap” helped ABC capture Wednesday in key demos as well as total viewers, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

In the night’s opening hour, “Lost” (6.6/17 in adults 18-49, 18.6 million viewers overall) added 2 million viewers vs. last week and dominated the competish, approaching series-best scores. The Alphabet then fell off at 9 p.m. with “The Bachelor” (3.9/9 in adults 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall), although the dating skein was up week-to-week. ABC then fared well at 10 with “Wife Swap” (4.7/13 in adults 18-49, 10.7 million viewers overall), which spiked up to best-since-premiere averages.

CBS ran second on the night, getting a nice contribution at 9 from “King of Queens” (slot-leading 4.4/10 in adults 18-49, 11.9 million viewers overall) and a winning score at 10 from “CSI: NY” (5.5/15 in adults 18-49, 14.7 million viewers overall). In between, though, new comedy “Center of the Universe” (3.7/9 in adults 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) fell off a bit, retaining an OK 84% of its “King” lead-in.

For NBC, “LAX” (2.5/6 in adults 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall) improved but remained modest, and “West Wing” shot up at 9 to its best scores in about a year (4.4/11 in adults 18-49, 14.1 million viewers overall), winning the hour.

Fox was second in demos at 8 with “That ’70s Show” (3.2/8 in adults 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall) but then fell into a tie for third at 8:30 with “Quintuplets” (2.7/7 in adults 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall). At 9, the premiere of unscripted series “Nanny 911” performed pretty well (3.8/9 in adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall), on par with ABC’s “The Bachelor” in 18-49.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 5.1/13; CBS, 4.0/10; NBC, 3.4/9; Fox, 3.4/8; UPN, 2.1/5; WB, 1.7/4.

In total viewers: ABC, 12.8 million; CBS, 11.6 million; NBC, 11 million; Fox, 7.4 million; UPN, 4.5 million; WB, 3.7 million.
