‘Last’ deal for German b’caster

ProSiebenSat.1 nabs TV rights to WB package

COLOGNE — Haim Saban’s ProSiebenSat 1 broadcast group has purchased a 30-pic package from Warner for German terrestrial TV, including “The Last Samurai.” Deal closed Wednesday, the day before the Tom Cruise starrer hits Germany’s theaters.

Other pics include “Something’s Gotta Give,” “Final Destination 2,” “Freddie vs. Jason” and the two “Matrix” sequels, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.” The package also includes six TV series including “The OC,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Cold Case.”

The group, formerly owned by bankrupt Kirch Media, said this was the first major deal it has signed with Warner Bros. directly.

CEO Urs Rohner noted the group previously signed license deals with Paramount, Sony, Disney, Miramax and Lucasfilm, and in Germany with Senator, Constantin, Tobis, Epsilon and Highlight. “Our channels remain the first address for Hollywood cinema,” he said.
