‘Idol’ hits season high Tuesday

Fox’s amazing “American Idol” delivered more season highs with its seventh episode this winter, again topping the combined network competish in Tuesday’s 8 o’clock hour, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

Yet another audition episode of “Idol” (13.1/33 in adults 18-49, 30.1 million viewers) crushed everything in its path, with a repeat of the premiere of CBS’ “Survivor: All Stars” a distant second in the 8 o’clock hour (3.0/8 in adults 18-49, 8.9 million viewers). Fox, which won the night in all key measures, led the 9 o’clock hour with “24” (4.9/12 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers), although the drama again forfeited a good chunk of its “Idol” lead-in.

NBC ran second on the night in 18-49 with its revised lineup. It was a strong start at 9:30 for “Scrubs” (4.1/10 in adults 18-49, 9.4 million viewers), which retained all of its 18-49 lead-in from “Frasier” (4.1/10 in adults 18-49, 12.2 million viewers). And at 10, “Law & Order: SVU” (5.5/15 in adults 18-49, 13.8 million viewers) topped the combined demo scores of competing dramas “Judging Amy” on CBS (2.9/8 in adults 18-49, 11.3 million viewers) and “Line of Fire” on ABC (2.1/6 in adults 18-49, 5.7 million viewers).

At CBS, a special “Navy NCIS” (3.0/7 in adults 18-49, 10.9 million viewers overall) delivered the net’s strongest 18-49 series score in the 9 o’clock hour this season.

UPN again impressed at 9 with “America’s Next Top Model” (3.4/8 in adults 18-49, 6.9 million viewers), which won the 9:30 half-hour in adults 18-34.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 9.0/22; NBC, 4.0/10; CBS, 3.0/8; ABC, 2.5/6; UPN, 2.1/5; WB, 1.8/5.

In total viewers: Fox, 20.7 million; NBC, 10.5 million; CBS, 10.4 million; ABC, 6.9 million; UPN, 4.7 million; WB, 4.4 million.
