‘Housewives’ clean up again

The combination of “Desperate Housewives” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” again proved unstoppable for ABC on Sunday, as the Alphabet captured the night in key demo categories, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen.

After “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (2.8/8 in adults 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall) was a solid second to football in the 7 o’clock hour, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (6.2/16 in adults 18-49, 14.9 million viewers overall) and “Desperate Housewives” (9.8/23 in adults 18-49, 22.3 million viewers overall) both dominated their hours, with the latter hitting a high for a second straight week.

At 10, ABC’s “Boston Legal” (4.8/13 in adults 18-49, 12.6 million viewers overall) retained less than half of its 18-49 “Housewives” lead-in but still topped NBC’s “Crossing Jordan” (4.4/12 in adults 18-49, 12.6 million viewers overall).

Also for NBC, “Dateline” (1.8/5 in adults 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) and “American Dreams” (2.3/6 in adults 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) didn’t do much, and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (3.7/9 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) was overwhelmed by ABC’s “Housewives.”

CBS received a strong NFL overrun (a projected 8.2/25 in adults 18-49 from 7 to roughly 7:35 for the Patriots-Steelers) and held up well with both “60 Minutes” (5.5/15 in adults 18-49, 19.7 million viewers overall) and “Cold Case” (4.0/10 in adults 18-49, 15.7 million viewers overall). From roughly 9:30 to 11:30, prostitution pic “The Madam’s Family” averaged a soft 2.5/7 in adults 18-49 and about 9.3 million viewers overall.

Fox recorded what’s likely its lowest in-season Sunday score on record with the theatrical movie “X-Files: Fight for the Future” (1.3/3 in adults 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary adults 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 5.9/15; CBS, 4.2/11; NBC, 3.0/8; Fox, 1.5/4; WB, 1.1/3.
